An article in the newspaper from 1954:Scientist from the RAND Corporation have created this computer model to illustrate how a "home computer" could look like in the year 2004. However the needed technology will not be economically feasible for the average home.

--Imagine if our home computers looked like that!!! I guess we've underestimated our own intellectual capabilities. To think that now we have computer notebooks weighing only 4 lbs. or less at 11" x 10 "x 1.3" and it wouldn't surprise me if there are any smaller size out there. I believe the smallest computer that fits portable designs is at 1.25 x 2.3 x 0.26 in.
